Fashion Week Ready  James Vincent

As New York Fashion Week approaches, there is no better time to gain a deeper understanding of the opportunities, expectations, and realities of working backstage.

Join James Vincent for an immersive one-day seminar and hands-on workshop designed to help artists understand and succeed in the world of Fashion Week and editorial beauty.

The morning session will provide an insider’s look into the fast-paced environment of runway production, breaking down the structure of Fashion Week, the expectations placed on makeup artists, and the distinct responsibilities of both lead artists and assistants.

The afternoon will transition into an interactive hands-on workshop where participants will experience a realistic backstage workflow, from interpreting a creative brief to executing makeup under time constraints. Please note: you are required to bring your own brushes, makeup will be provided.

Workshop Schedule

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM – Seminar: Understanding Fashion Week. This will cover:

– The structure and purpose of Fashion Week
– Runway, editorial, and designer collaborations
– The role of the Lead Makeup Artist
– The role of the Assistant Makeup Artist
– Building a professional backstage reputation
– Team communication and set etiquette
– Networking within the fashion industry
– Portfolio development

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM – Lunch Break

2:00 PM – 2:45 PM – Live Demonstration: Creative Brief to Runway Look
James Vincent will demonstrate his process for interpreting a designer’s vision and translating it into a runway-ready makeup look. This will cover: 

– Understanding the creative brief
– Product selection
– Speed and efficiency
– Team communication
– Adapting to last-minute changes

2:45 PM – 5:45 PM – Hands-On Workshop: Runway Makeup in Action
Under the guidance of James Vincent, participants will work through a simulated backstage environment while creating a runway-inspired look on each other. This will include:

– Creative brief review and look development
– Live demonstration by James Vincent
– Guided hands-on makeup application
– Simulated backstage timing and workflow
– Troubleshooting and adaptation techniques
– Individual critique and feedback
– Professional image capture and final review
